Brain Tumor: Surgical and Non-Surgical Treatments

16 September 2025

Ramesh, 50, lived with headaches for months. “It’s stress,” he said, brushing it off. Painkillers, home remedies. Nothing worked. One morning, his words wouldn’t come out clearly. His family rushed him in. The scans revealed a brain tumor.

“I didn’t believe it at first,” he said. “I thought it was just pressure from work.”

At the hospital, doctors explained the options. For him, surgery was possible. “The aim is to take out as much of the tumor as we safely can,” said his neurosurgeon. At the best cancer hospital in India, planning doesn’t happen alone. Neurosurgeons, oncologists, radiologists sit together, review scans, and map the approach.

For some, surgery is straightforward. A craniotomy, sometimes an awake surgery, sometimes minimally invasive. These belong to the list of brain tumor advanced therapies now available. For others, the tumor sits too deep or too close to vital nerves. Then doctors turn to radiation, chemotherapy, or newer targeted medicines. Immunotherapy is an option in a few cases. These treatments don’t remove the tumor but control its growth.

“It isn’t only about the tumor,” Ramesh’s doctor added. “It’s about the life after.” Patients may face speech issues, memory lapses, weakness in limbs. That is why rehabilitation matters. Physiotherapy, counseling, nutrition, and long-term follow-up are as important as the operation.

Doctors often repeat the same warning  headaches that don’t stop, sudden vision problems, unexplained seizures  these are not small. They need testing. Quick MRI, biopsy, and other cancer diagnostic testing services catch the problem early, when treatment works best.
Today, Ramesh is recovering. His words are back, his headaches lighter. “If I had waited longer, I don’t know where I’d be,” he said.

Brain tumors sound frightening. But with timely diagnosis, surgery, and non-surgical care, outcomes are improving. The key is not waiting, not dismissing the signs.
